LEGACY - WINERY
LUIS SAENZ wines are elaborated with grapes from an area called El CASTILLO, located in El Cortijo (Logroño), in the heart of La Rioja Alta.
Surrounding this castle, defensive tower of the depression of the Ebro River, are our century-old vineyards.
In these poor, clay-calcareous lands, our grandfather planted this beautiful vineyard "EL CASTILLO" at the beginning of the last century, one of the oldest vineyards on our property and, possibly, of the entire Rioja Denomination of Origin.
ANA SAENZ is much more than a wine; because it values the work and legacy of the women of this family, who have always been in charge of the winery, often without being noticed too much, but giving the best of themselves with great effort and dedication.
This wine is a way to honor these women and remember the importance of their work in creating something as valuable as this wine.
FINCA VALDEGUINEA wines are elaborated with grapes from our vineyard in an area called VALDEGUINEA, also located in El Cortijo (Rioja Alta).
From this vineyards, planted with manual grafting os Tempranillo already mature, we can admire the whole Sierra Cantabria, with its peculiar mountain of El León Dormido.
As its name indicates, Valdeguinea is an old horse pasture. For this reason, this area preserves the remains of the ancient Roman road that led to the Mantible Bridge.
From these poor, clay-limestone soils, at an altitude of over 2000 feet, we obtain our most traditional wine.
Currently, this legacy, in the hands of the Sáenz Family, is traditionally cared for and cultivated to obtain the highest quality and to elaborate our wines with its own personality and name: LUIS SAENZ, ANA SAENZ & FINCA VALDEGUINEA.
LUIS JUAN SAENZ defines himself as a winegrower aware of the fact that his work culminates and is rewarded in obtaining these great wines that bear the family name of this legacy: BODEGA LUIS SAENZ, from our grandfather to our days; joining tradition, culture and innovation.

OLDEST VINEYARDS
LOCATION
Our vineyards are located in an area of recognized winemaking tradition of La Rioja Alta: El Cortijo.
GROUND
The subsoil has a very special feature: its clay-calcareous composition.
This characteristic is extraordinary for the crop, offering grain production and small clusters that allow to obtain wines of excellent quality.
CLIMATOLOGY
It is a privileged area due to the confluence of the Mediterranean, Cantabrian and Atlantic winds.
The extreme winters and the hot summers favour the production of high quality grapes with which we make our wines LUIS SAENZ.
CENTENARY VINEYARDS
The vineyard, due to its age and characteristics, has become the fundamental basis for obtaining the best Rioja wines.
At 600 meters above sea level, we find our centenary vineyards planted on mountain slopes and cultivated, in glass -goblet system-, in the traditional style.
To preserve the typicity of our vineyards, we perform our own manual grafting on land.
LIMITED PRODUCTION
The land, the climate and the type of cultivation make our production limited and select.
This is how we made our LUIS SAENZ wines, characterized by their high expression in aroma, colour and elegance.
